Dear Friends,
As we approach the end of this year, I want you to know that I have decided to retire from my position as rector of St. Peter’s. While my current contract as a half-time priest finishes at the end of this year, I will continue and complete my work with you sometime in the first quarter of 2026. The end date will be determined once the vestry, in consultation with the diocese, has set up a search process for a new priest to serve you.
By the time I leave, we will have served in ministry together for over five years. Little did I know when I began my work with you in January of 2021 how rich and rewarding our mutual ministry would be. You have demonstrated the faithful love of God and served in Jesus Christ’s name in our time together, just as you have done so the past and will do so in the future.
The wardens and I have met with the Rev. Suzanne Roberts, Transition Officer for the Diocese of Maine, and we will keep you informed of the details of the transition process. Throughout this time, I invite you to pray for this beloved community of which we are all a part. May God continue to guide us so that we may be a sign of Christ’s reconciling and healing love in our neighborhood, in greater Portland, and in the world.
With love and gratitude for all of you,
Fr. Tom
